WHY ARE THE TWO STUDIOS MERGING?
Both Progressions Dance Studio and Shannon’s All About Dance had outgrown their current Studio space and required a larger, newer facility. Shannon and Cathy discussed the opportunities to join the studios to create a much nicer facility, allowing greater flexibility for future growth, class scheduling and greater convenience for students and parents.

WILL MY CHILD'S TEACHER / SCHEDULE BE CHANGING?
Possibly. All Progressions teachers will be keeping most of their classes. Some students may have a new teacher. Ms. Cathy and Ms. Shannon are working on combining both schedules, with as few changes as possible.

WILL THE CLASS TIMES AND DAY BE CHANGING?
Due to scheduling, some classes will be moving days and or times. Ms. Cathy and I have tried to affect as few students as possible.

WILL THE TUITION COSTS CHANGE?
Yes. Tuition will be based on per family minutes per month. Some families will pay less, a few will have a minimal increase.

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT RECITAL?
All students will still be dancing in recital. The date is June 2nd. With the increase of enrollment, we will have to 2, maybe 3 shows.

WHO DO I MAKE TUITION PAYMENTS TO?
Please make payments to Shannon’s Progressions Dance Studio.

CAN I STAY ON AUTO PAY?
Yes. We will continue to offer this service.

WHAT'S THE NEW STUDIO LIKE, HOW MANY DANCE ROOMS, ETC....?
The new studio is quite large. There is one large waiting area for parents. We will have a full retail store. There are 2 very large dance rooms. The large room is approx. 35 x 50 and the smaller one is approx. 30 x 40. We have 2 bathrooms and a lot of parking! It’s really beautiful! The facility has been totally remodeled, complete with a dance retail store, and a large waiting area that includes video cameras and monitor to enable parents to watch children dance during instruction.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE COMPETITIVE DANCE TEAMS?
Both Ms. Cathy and Ms. Shannon will keep the routines they have, with the dancers they have. We are working on hosting a team party, so the girls can meet. We would like to do a large group number together.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON AT SHANNON'S PROGRESSIONS DANCE STUDIO AND GET BASIC INFORMATION FROM MONTH TO MONTH?

You will always be informed through frequenty newsletters (usually monthly or every other month), that will be given to your child. Please check your child's dance bag for any new and pertinent information.

If you would like to have your newsletter emailed to you, please provide Miss Shannon with your email address or contact the webdesigner at sarita@saadance.com to be added to the list. Sarita generally sends out the email lists to the parents prior to updating the website, so those parents on the email lists are the first to know studio information. At the beginning of the 2011/2012 season in August, we will have a clipboard available at the studio for you to document your email address to be added to the mailing list for the year. Even if you have been on the list before, it is time to purge and get new emails and information, and also to remove former dancers from our list.

This website is always updated with all new information, also, if your child happens to lose their newsletter.

You may also contact Miss Shannon at missshannon@saadance.com.

WHAT IF MY CHILD'S SHOES NO LONGER FIT? HOW DO I GET MY CHILD'S FEET MEASURED AND SIZED FOR A NEW PAIR OF DANCE SHOES?

Children grow very quickly. Anytime you need to get your child's feet sized, Miss Shannon will be happy to try on shoes to get just the right fit, with just the right amount of growing room, and place your order right away. She is also able to provide you with dance tights, if needed.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS SICK OR ABSENT?

Students are encouraged to be on time and not to miss weekly classes. Class attendance is an important part of the dancer's growth.

If your child is going to miss a class, please contact the studio and leave a message to inform the dancer's teacher in advance.

Student may make up classes within 4 weeks from the class absence. The teacher will help you select the appropriate class your child should attend.

There will be no refunds for missed classes and classes dropped during the current month.

DO YOU SCHEDULE MAKE UP DAYS?

If your dancer needs to come in for a make up class due to sickness or a canceled class, we will clearly release a schedule of makeup days that your dancer can take. This information will be in your newsletter, or posted on the website. If you have any questions about your particular dancer's make up class, you can call Shannon to discuss it further.

WHAT IS "PARENT OBSERVATION DAY" or "WATCHING WEEK"?

We offer a parent observation day that we call Watching Week, at the end of each 8 week quarter. We encourage the parent to attend. This is a very exciting day for the dancers, as they are able to show the parent what we have been working on during the eight weeks of class. This also enables the parents to observe their progress. If, at any time, you have questions concerning the progress of your child, please feel free to talk to the teacher about your concerns. We usually make it a point to send home a reminder memo the week prior to your dancers watching week time. For a list of schedules of when Watching Week will be, please refer to our Yearly Calendar. At the bottom of the page, you will find a list of important events. Our first Watching Week of the year will be Monday, October 10th thru Saturday, October 15th.

WHAT IS "FUN WEEK"?

Occasionally, we have what we call Fun Week, where your child, in some cases, is allowed to bring one friend to class. Please only one friend per dancer. We do makeovers and do our nails, and just have fun. This week is designated only for the younger children. Miss Shannon will plan other things for Teens and Seniors during this week. You will be notified on the calendar and the website of whether we will decide to have a fun week during a watching week. There are certain Fun Weeks where we designate to NOT bring a friend, and just wear play clothes and have fun, just the students. You will be informed in advance. Our first Fun Week will be Monday, October 17th thru Saturday, October 22nd.

WHAT IS SHANNON'S PROGRESSIONS DANCE STUDIO DANCE STARS TEAM?

Shannon's Progressions Dance Studio has traditionally every year, hosted a Competition Dance Team that competes at local dance competitions against other organized dance teams and bring home trophies and awards. This team is called Dance Stars Team. Competition is an exciting time for the team to compete each year, and we look forward to it. The team members are ages 8-18 Juniors, Teens and Seniors. Participation in Dance Stars Team is not required for each student but for the ones who choose to take dance a step further.

HOW CAN I HELP SUPPORT THE SHANNON'S PROGRESSIONS DANCE STUDIO DANCE COMPETITION?

Each year, the team dancers have some exciting fund raisers they participate in. If you would like to help out our studio Dance Team, these are the things we will be selling. Funds raised by the Shannon's Progressions Dance Studio Dance Team go toward expenses involved in competitions. Carey Rodgers is in charge of fund raising and can answer any questions that you may have.

A portion of money from each fund raiser goes directly to the dancers so they help their parents with the cost of our competition team expenses. So please help support them this 2011/2012 dance competition season.

IS MY CHILD REQUIRED TO TAKE SEVERAL DIFFERENT CLASSES, LIKE I SEE SOME OF THE DANCERS DO?

No. Of course not. The basic class is Ballet / Tap / Jazz*. However, many of our dancers who love dance very much, have chosen to take on several additional classes during the course of the year (urban jazz, pointe, Dance Stars Team, lyrical, Extra Numbers for example). So you may see several of our dancers here at the studio many times during the week, and performing in many different numbers during the recital. However, you can dance as much or as little as you like. You are not required to take on several classes during the week, and certainly it is not mandatory. Most important is the happiness of the child. That is what we strive for here at Shannon's Progerssions Dance Studio. We have, in the past, worked with families whose child (in their Ballet/Tap/Jazz class) maybe chooses to only take tap, or maybe only wants to take ballet. Miss Shannon will be happy to talk with you about classes that you wish to take.

IS THE STUDIO CLOSED FOR SNOW DAYS?

Yes, we do close the studio when we feel that it is not safe to travel the roads. Your safety is important to us.

Please call the studio 2 hours prior to class start time in the case of bad weather. Also, check the studio website or watch WCPO Channel 9 and WLWT Channel 5 for our studio closing and other information. Classes missed can be made up within 4 weeks of studio closing. Refer to Absence Procedure. If you sign up for the email list, you will be contacted by Sarita in case the studio is closed.

In the event of BAD WEATHER:
1) You can call the studio number for a recording.
2) We will try and get emails out.
3) If you want to receive a text message, we just need your okay.

WHAT IS THE FALL (HOLIDAY) FUND RAISER RAFFLE?

For the past few years, we have had a holiday raffle. This raffle helps with the cost of putting on our annual dance Recital in June. I know there are always suggestions on doing other fund raisers, it just seems that our holiday raffle is the easiest thing to sell during the holiday season. All are asked to participate.

The way this works is that each family with one child will receive 10 raffles, families with two or more children receive 15 raffles to sell.

The Holidays are just right around the corner and with that in mind, we will be having a Holiday Raffle at the studio for a chance to win $100 or $50.

WHY DO WE PURCHASE RECITAL COSTUMES IN THE LATE FALL AND NOW SOME ARE DUE IN JANUARY?

It is necessary to purchase and order our costumes in the fall, to insure that we have them here in the studio in time for class photos and for the recital with no delays. Your costume payment is due no later than the first Monday in November.

Once your costumes are ordered, there will be no refund for dancers who do not continue. You will keep your costume and the costume will not be the refunded.

With the merger of Shannon's All About Dance and Progressions Dance Studio, we have looked at the most economical way for ordering costumes. With each studio having very different policies and the amount of costumes that we order, Cathy adn I have decided that those dancers who have purchased several costumes in the past, you will get a break on the number of costumes you will be purchasing from the catalog. Below, you will find a list of classes that will be purchasing a catalog costume, and need to get their costume payments in ASAP. Time is of the essence. The longer we wait to order, the later we will get the costume in. Those of you from Shannon's All About Dance who have paid costume fees (last fall), those have carried over with the merger. If you have not paid for your class costumes as of today, you need to do so ASAP as well...Also, if your dancers have multiple classes, those fees need to be paid as well.

If your class does not appear on the list below, your costumes will not be ordered from a costume catalog and will be a costume of a reduced fee. Information will be available once the remaining class costumes are decided upon by the teachers.

*Rehearsal Fees are due by March 5th before rehearsal starts on Saturday, March 6th.
The schedule of each group's rehearsal time is yet to be decided. During watching week, we will be discussing possible rehearsal days and times for this year's extra number practices.

If you are unsure what you should be paying, just ask Shannon what your costume fee(s) are.

WHAT ARE EXTRA NUMBERS, OPENING NUMBERS AND FAMILY NUMBERS?

At the recital, we have what we call "Extra numbers" that are in addition to the dance numbers that your child is learning in their regularly scheduled dance class. In other words, your child will obviously dance the dances they are learning in their regular weekly classes at the recital.

However, they ALSO have the OPPORTUNITY to take some extra rehearsals to learn some "extra" dances that we include in the recital. (There are rehearsal fees and costume fees for these extra dances, and these dances are OPTIONAL and NOT mandatory).

There are two different Extra Numbers that you have the opportunity to sign your dancer up for.

The first Extra Number that you have the opportunity to sign up for is the Opening Recital number (Midgets II to Seniors are invited - Tiny Tots and Midget I dancers must wait until they are in a Midget II class to participate). This is the first dance of the recital, which usually has a lot of stage production, various costumes, dancers of various ages, and carries the main theme of the recital. This is an exciting part of the show each year.

The second Extra Number you have the opportunity to sign up for is the Family Number (in order to sign up for this dance, your child must have another relative who dances at Shannon's Progressions Dance Studio), and they get to partner together as a family in this number. You have the choice to sign up for one dance, or even both dances. This dance is performed in the middle of the recital and showcases family members who take dance at our studio, where they get the opportunity to do a performance together.

AGAIN, these dances are NOT mandatory (only their regular scheduled weekly classes that you registered for are), but they are LOTS of FUN!

If you plan to participate in any of the Extra Numbers, you will be asked to pay an additional fee for any extra number costumes and for the extra number rehearsals, aside from the fee you have already payed for your regular class costume.

PLEASE NOTE: If you sign up for an Extra Number, and find you are unable to make the scheduled rehearsals, please let Miss Shannon know in Advance. Once the costumes are ordered, they belong to you. If your dancer cannot make the rehearsals (due to other scheduling conflicts, such as sporting events), they will be unable to participate in these dance numbers at the recital.

Most of the rehearsals are scheduled for Saturdays, and it is important that your dancer make these rehearsals, due to the imited amount of time to learn these dances. So, before you sign up, please be prepared to be commited to the rehearsals.

If you can make it, the children LOVE doing these extra numbers, they are exciting, the music is always great, and they're ALWAYS lots of fun. And you won't regret seeing your dancer on the Scott High School Auditorium Stage for these extra dances, in addition to what they're already participating in with their regular weekly dances.

WHAT IS THE HOLIDAY BALLET?

This year, we will be performing “A Christmas Review” with our dancers performing a variety of dance styles to Christmas music. The holiday show has become an exciting time of the year for Shannon's Progressions Dance Studio the past to years. The dancers are already wanting to get started on the Christmas Recital. It is a fantastic part of our dance season, giving the dancers another opportunity to perform. We will be performing at Scott High School on Sunday, December 18th. So plan ahead. The whole studio is involved in the show. Last year’s performance was a big hit. I think this year’s show will be as well. We will start learning the dance in class after Fun Week.

Dress rehearsal combined with the recital performance may seem like a long day, as in the past we have always done it this way, and it always turns out fine. Parents, you are welcome to stay the entire time. This way, if the children are done early, you will be there for them. All dancers are to come wearing their performance tights, which for the most are tan. If you need to get them, please fill out an order form and get it to me by Thursday evening by 8:30 and I will order them for you on Friday. No late orders will be taken. Also, all dancers are to have their hair pulled away from face. All are to wear makeup under the lights - it is a must. (Eyes, lips and cheeks).

When coming to Scott High School, use the side stage entrance on the lower level (in the back parking lot), which is located to the left of the gym and pool main entrance. This door leads you directly into the auditorium and band room where the dancers will change. For those of you who are new to the studio, I will be glad to explain the door location.

During the break, the dancers are able to stay and eat here at the school - just pack a lunch or snack for them, or if they leave, you need to check out with Miss Shannon and Miss Natalie so we know they are with you. Just make sure all are back and ready by 1:45 for the 2:00 show.

DOES THE STUDIO HAVE A HOLIDAY CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THE STUDENTS?

The date for this year's Christmas party to be decided. We will have treats, and play Christmas games. If you would like to bring in a treat, you may do so, but it is not necessary. I am aware that our big parties have been something that all dancers look forward to, as do I, so I could not go without spending time with my dancers before our Christmas break.

(* I ask that each dancer bring in a small gift of $5 or less, please, for the end of party exchange. )

Christmas break will start on dates to be decided.

DOES THE DANCE STUDIO CLOSE DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON?

Yes. The studio closes Halloween Night, the weekend of Thanksgiving, and also the week after the Christmas Party until the first week in January.

WHAT IS "DANCE FOR HEART?"

Each year in February, we participate in the Dance For Heart fund raiser that the local dance studios participate in annually at the Florence Mall. For anyone interested in participating, we have pledge sheets for you to collect money for those to sponsor you for dancing at Dance for Heart.

Date for Dance for Heart is To Be Decided.

WHAT IS THE SPRING FUNDRAISER ABOUT?

Spring 2011 Information Follows: This year our spring fund raiser will be selling The World’s Finest Chocolate. I ask that each family sell one carrying case of The Fund Shop Kids Variety pack of 50 candy bars and treats with a profit of $25 for the studio. Each year the studio fund raiser profit is used for the end of the year performance at Scott High School. Each box contains 12 Carmel Bars, 10, Crisp Bars, 15 Milk Chocolate Bars, 8 Groovy Gummies & 5 Ravin’ Raisins. All are $1.00. This has always been an easy fund raiser because everyone loves chocolate. The Fund raiser will begin April 19th. Good Luck on your sales, and Thank You in advance for your participation.

Money for the Spring Fundraisers is Due May 5th*. (*2011 Information - Will be updated as soon as available.)

If for some reason, you do not wish to participate in selling these items, we do ask that you make a $25 Donation to the Dance Studio. All donations are appreciated and go toward the cost of recital expenses.

WHAT IS A ROOM MOM?

Each year at the dance recital, we have Recital Room Moms. Each class is to have at least one mom for small classes and two for larger classes. We have regular meetings here at the studio, to instruct and inform the room moms of what is expected of them. In the case of younger children, the Room Mom is there to help them get dressed and ready for each number. For the older girls, they are there to supervise and make sure the girls get to each dance number and make their costume changes on time.

The Room Moms have had some say in some decisions such as how the ticket lottery is done. The Room Moms also communicate with the parents about costumes, and collect money for dance tights, right before recital.

Room Moms get a few perks such as being the very FIRST to choose tickets for the recital, before anyone else purchases theirs. That way, your family can sit close to the stage.

You will have the opportunity this winter to sign up to be a recital Room Mom by signing one of the sign-up sheets that will be hanging in the Lobby. We appreciate all of your help to all who volunteer. For A List of Room Mom Duties, Click HERE.

WHY DO I NEED TO ORDER TIGHTS FOR MY CHILD?

Consistency, mainly. We want all of the dancers to have the same tights at the recital with their costumes, so that each dancer will look the same on the stage. Your room mom will be taking an order for tights for your daughter to wear at the recital, and we offer a much lower price than you will find at most dance retailers. It is also convenient, to have them just arrive at the studio. They are usually tan (not always), and available in sizes to fit the tiny tots all the way to the seniors.

Tight orders will be taken on dates April 14th. Orders form (Print Here) will be handed out in your dancer's class (or emailed to you if you're on the email list.) I will have sample sizes in the waiting room for you to make sure you order the correct size. You can also order nude leotards at this time as well. These leotards can be worn under all costumes. This makes public clothes changing easier for our modest dancers, as the girls share a large dressing room (boys are in a separate room.) This ear all orders can be put in the tuition box and not given to the room mom to eliminate the middle man. The due date for the money is To Be Decided.

WHEN IS THE RECITAL?

Shannon's Progressions Dance Studio Recital is normally held at Scott High School.

Performance Dates this year are To Be Decided but they are generall the first Saturday evening in June and the first Sunday afternoon in June.

This year's theme is "All Dolled Up".

HOW CAN I PURCHASE TICKETS TO THE RECITAL?

Ticket Purchase Day is a date to be decided in May (a few weeks before recital). and sold here at the studio. Additional tickets can be purchased on the following week.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DANCE PICTURES?

The scheduled dates for Picture Day are To Be Decided.

Every year, after all of the costumes arrive, and right before recital, we schedule a professional photographer to come in and take pictures of your dancer in his/her costume. You have the opportunity to purchase a single picture of your dancer in costume, and also a group photo of your dancer's class in their matching costumes. For a Sample of Previous Years, See Our Recital Pages HERE and Select Various Different Classes. Also, 2004 thru 2008 ARCHIVED YEARS Are Also Available to view from that page.

We have been very fortunate to have Christopher Bross as our Studio Photographer. Christopher is a professional wedding and portrait photographer and is also the father of one of our dancers here at the studio. He has done a fantastic job for the past seven years taking our studio portraits, and we are fortunate to have him as part of our Shannon's Progressions Dance Studio dance family.

On Picture Day, the dancers should come to the studio dressed in full costume, all the way down to their tights and shoes, and hair accessories. They may wear just a light amount of makeup for the photos (it's not necessary to wear it as heavy as you will for the recital).

When Shannon announces Picture Day SEVERAL WEEKS IN ADVANCE, please let her know ASAP if you have out of town plans that week, and will not be able to attend. We only ask, because it can be very inconvenient to others who plan their schedule around that planned day, when families announce at the last minute that it was never a good time for them on that day, and never mentioned it. You will have adequate time to let Miss Shannon know, so we only ask that you please communicate. We hope to see all of you in the photos, and don't want to miss a photo-op with any of our lovely dancers.

On the scheduled picture day, please make an effort to be on time (30 minutes early if possible), so that it doesn't throw off the schedule for the other classes that will be arriving for their pictures. We understand that things happen, and we will try to be flexible and work with you. Just understand that if we all try, it makes things go smoother. We'll be photographing many dancers through the course of just a few hours, so it can get a bit hectic and stressful if we don't all work together.

Once your child has had their photo taken, personal and group, the entire group of their class will come out into the lobby and wait a few moments. Your room moms will then bring your proofs out to you to view and make a choice from. On the reverse side of the paper with the printed proofs is your order form. Please fill out the order form and leave your order form and check in the designated place for Mr. Bross before you leave. Orders are paid for the day the photos are taken. You may pay with a check.

Below are some picture day helpful hints:

1. Bring dancers dressed and ready to go.
2. Light make-up is a good thing but not required.
3. All must have on recital tights and correct dance shoes.
4. Bring check or money with you. Christopher takes all orders that day. You can write one check for all of your children who will have pictures taken that day. Just turn them all in together after your last child is photographed.
5. If you have questions for Christopher, you will need to come back at the end of hte day to talk to him. This way, we will stay on time.
6. Only the Room Moms will go into the studio with the class. With all parents going in, it is very distracting for Christopher and the dancers. The dancers will bring out a proof sheet for you to look at. (We only have 30 minutes alotted for each class, regardless of size).
7. Siblings can have pictures taken together. Bring one with the other during their time.

Dance pictures are not mandatory, of course, but well worth your money and time to have treasured photos that you can keep forever. They always turn out really beautiful, and preserve the memories of your dancer. You won't be disappointed.

Usually, Mr. Bross also offered us several varieties of photo sets and sizes of packages, and in addition, offers some additional fun items, such as photo mugs, key chains, etc (specific items are subject to change at Mr. Bross's discretion). These make terrific gifts for family members.

Recital T-shirt orders will also begin on picture day. T-shirts are ordered thru Miss Shannon, and not through Mr. Bross. They will say 2012 Recital (with the theme of this year's recital), and on the back, have names of each and every dancer at the studio this year who participated in the 2012 Recital. They often come in a choice of bright colors and are popular and often seen around the studio being worn in the years to come.

DO YOU RECORD A DVD OF THE RECITAL?

Yes. Usually, you can pick up an order form in the lobby to place your order. However, this past year, we found ourselves without a videographer until the week of recital, and dvd orders were taken at the ticket table on Recital Weekend at Scott High School. The dvd's are often available during the summer months and arrive at the dance studio. We prefer that you pick up your order at the studio so you may receive your dvd without chance of damage by mail. However, If you choose not to pick up your dvd at Shannon's Progressions Dance Studio, you will need to fill all of your information out on the order form when you place your order. The cost of the dvd's are $25. We will keep you informed this year if we will have early orders and order forms in the studio, or if you must order them at Scott High School on recital weekend. This year's recital will be filmed by Nik Malatesta.

DOES THE STUDIO CLOSE FOR SPRING BREAK?

Spring break 2012 is TBD.

WHY DO I NEED TO CHECK MY CHILD'S NAME FOR THE CORRECT SPELLING ON THE LIST IN THE LOBBY?

We do this so that we can get all the dancer's names spelled correctly in the Recital Program that you receive at the recital (which has a listing of each performance, photos of each group, and names of each dancer), and also so that we can work on getting a t-shirt made for the year's recital, with all of the dancer's names on the back. We want to make sure to spell your dancer's name correctly. (No minor under the age of 18 will have their last name published on the website, for their own safety.)

T-shirt orders begin in the Spring. Date is TBA.

WHAT ARE LOVE LINE ADS?

In the recital program, we have program lovelines where you put a written personal message to your dancer. You can also put a business advertisement in the back of the recital program. We also have photo dedications where you put a photo of your dancer along with a personal message.

WHAT IS COMBINATION WEEK?

Combination Week is a VERY important week where you will receive a schedule of when your dancer is to arrive at the studio. We will have several classes rehearsing all at the same time, so the schedule (and the studio) is quite tight. Combination week is usually about two weeks before recital and is To Be Decided.

All COMBINATION WEEK rehearsals ARE ABSOLUTELY Mandatory!

This assigned week is a pre-run through of the recital. Your class room mom will also attend these rehearsals, so that they are prepared for the actual show. Also, this week will allow your child to be better acquainted with the order of the show to allow for a smooth dress rehearsal the morning of the actual show.

Your dancer will be here two to three times during the week (NOT THEIR REGULAR SCHEDULE), and will be there for several hours, (so feel free to pack them some water and a snack).

Please check all times your dancers are to be here at the studio.

Some important things to remember: Be on time! Be ready to dance when arriving at the studio. This means all dancers are to be in leotards and tights, if not they will be asked to sit and watch.

As you arrive at the studio, drop your children off, and check in with your room mom. Upon your return to the studio, let your room mom know that you are picking up your child, especially for the younger students. This will insure the safety of all the children at the studio. Thank you for your cooperation. With everyone's help, this will be an exciting week for all dancers at Shannon's Progressions Dance Studio.

I am aware that this is a busy time for all parents and children. If you know of any scheduling conflicts you may have, you need to let Shannon know ASAP. Only Mandatory School conflict and illness are excused. Staying home for nice weather is not.

WHAT ABOUT OTHER COSTUMES / HAIR STYLE / SHOES FOR RECITAL?

When you take a regular class (ballet/tap/jazz), you will only purchase a costume for one of these dances. For the other two dances, we put together very easy to collaborate costumes (such as black shorts, white t-shirt - for instance). These additional costumes are chosen by your room mom. Each class has a list of what they are expected to wear in each of their dances, and a list of those can be found on this website. You can also find information your class's personal hairstyle and shoes. Costume Information is posted on the website at the end of the year before recital to give you time to gather up pieces of clothing needed.

WHAT IF I HAVE FINAL QUESTIONS BEFORE RECITAL (LAST WEEK OF CLASSES)?

On the last week of classes, before the recital, in order for all parents and students to ask any final questions, Miss Shannon asks that at least one parent (or grandparent) attend the last half hour of your child's class. We will also be giving out back stage passes and our dress rehearsal schedule. This last week will be used for the classes to do their dances one last time before dress rehearsal the morning of the recital. So bring all questions and concerns with you.

Of course, you can contact Miss Shannon at the Studio for questions at any time.

Also, the website will be updated regularly, and any new information will always be on the new News and Events Page.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DRESS REHEARSAL?

The date of Dress Rehearsal is the morning of the Saturday performance, (Date To Be Decided). It will take place at Scott High School.

Below you will find some simple rules and procedures we need to follow to make this the greatest show possible!!!

Rules and Accessories:

1
All costumes should be labeled with student’s name.
2
Make-up is a must. All neutral colors please. (No Blue, Pink, Green and Purples - are all reflective in stage lighting. Blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lip liner and lipstick. Older dancers: false eyelashes are preferred.
3
No nail polish, jewelry, extra hair bows if not a part of the costume, no underwear under the tights (they seem to glow under the lights)
4
No snacks that may stain costume. Example: soft drinks, fruit punch, Cheetos, Doritos, dips of any kind. Water bottles are preferred and easy no-mess snacks.
5
For the little ones, it’s best to bring an activity such as crayons, (no markers or pencils, please), coloring books and simple games.
6
No flash photography or video during recital.
7
Dancers are back stage during the show, not in the audience; this is only a distraction.
8
No food is to be brought into the auditorium.
9
Everyone must have a ticket to see performances. Ages 2 and under must have a lap ticket or you will be charged at the door. This is a Scott High School fire code. All are to be accounted for.
10
No Males will be permitted to go into the Dressing Room during the Rehearsal or the Show.

Drop off procedure for Rehearsal and Shows.

1
Enter at stage door to the left (it’s an outside side entrance). Not the gymnasium and pool entrance.
2
One parent sign dancer in at the door at Dress Rehearsal and at Recitals.
3
All must sign in at the Band Room Door.
4
Dancer and one female parent proceed into Band Room door to the right - others go through door straight ahead to auditorium.
5
Find the dressing area with class day and time; Seniors and Boys go upstairs on stage level.
6
Get dancers dressed and ready for the first dance.
7
During Dress Rehearsal, parent may proceed to the auditorium and to take your own pictures or video.
*
During Recital, parents are to go out to the lobby to enter through the front doors of the auditorium.

Pick-Up After Dress Rehearsal

1
Dancers will be dismissed after their last dance of the afternoon.
2
Room moms will bring dancers to the auditorium to meet parents so they may go home to rest.
3
Exit through the auditorium door to the right of the stage and exit through the gymnasium lobby.

After the Finale

I ask that only one female family member come back to the Band Room (girls dressing room) through the outside door to pick up your children.

Please have your child's hair and makeup ready BEFORE returning back to the recital location that evening.

You may leave your costumes in the dressing room. Costumes and everything for the recital will be locked in our dressing room between rehearsal and the recital. The girls will not wear their costumes home from rehearsal or from the recital.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE EVENING AND AFTERNOON PERFORMANCES ON EACH "RECITAL DAY"?

Unless otherwise noted, the performance venue is Scott High School in Taylor Mill, KY (DIRECTIONS HERE).

The Performance dates this year are TBA (pending on Scott High School's schedule).

No underwear under the costumes. Just like a swimsuit. Only tights with no panties underneath, please. We want to avoid the bright Aronoff lights showing off your daughter's little "Ariel" or "Dora the Explorer" panties. Because they will show.

No colored nail polish, only clear is allowed.

No jewelry.

ALL are to wear heavy stage makeup due to the many lights that will be used for the stage. Without heavy makeup, your children will have a ghostly appearance on stage. You can make them up at home, and bring them to the stage door, in their street clothes, and heavy makeup, hair already done and ready to dance. The only thing that has to be changed are their costumes. You may send some touch up make up for the room moms, if you wish, but the room moms do not have time to make up every single child, so please do this at home before you leave. (Most little girls look forward as much to the makeup as they do to the recital itself).

You will find parking at Scott High School to be more than adequate, safe, and best of all, free. Seating at the auditorium of Scott High School is perfect. There isn't a bad seat in the house. You can see the entire stage from anywhere you have a ticketed seat in the room. We have had excellent recital experiences the last few years at Scott High School, and look forward to another great recital there this year.

We hope these have answered all of your questions. It is our best interest to make this a pleasurable experience for both you and your child.

DOES SHANNON'S PROGRESSIONS DANCE STUDIO HAVE CLASSES DURING THE SUMMER BREAK?

Yes. After Miss Shannon takes a well needed break for a few weeks, she opens her studio doors to anyone who is interested in taking any extra classes during the summer break. These are paid for separately and are not a part of your Fall thru Spring dance year tuition that prepares your dancer for recital. They are just fun for summer.

HOW LONG DO SUMMER CLASSES LAST?

Summer classes generally last for six weeks and are finished just in time to have a short break before we begin our new dance season 2011/2012 in late August.

HOW CAN WE BE A MEMBER OF THE DANCE STARS COMPETITION TEAM?

After the June recital, Miss Shannon will announce a time for a team meeting for the upcoming season. It will be at the dance studio, usually takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours, and Miss Shannon will be there to answer all of your questions. Tiny Tots and Midgets are not advised to attend, you must be in an older assigned dance class (Juniors thru Seniors). Team members will need to be prepared to begin rehearsals during the summer, and some of the fund raisers actually begin as early as summer. If you are interested in being on team, keep an eye on the website in early June for an announcement of when the team meeting is. The team meeting for the 2011/2012 is June 28.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT MY DANCER'S SCHEDULE AND CLASS IS FOR THE UPCOMING DANCE YEAR THIS FALL?

Late each summer, Miss Shannon mails out a flyer personally to each dancer who participated the previous year, to let them know what class the dancer is in, and what her schedule will be. This flyer will also include the date for SAADance Open House (usually in early August) where you can stop in and talk to Miss Shannon for any questions you may have for the upcoming year.
